For this project, I knew I wanted to create a space that would work well with soft lighting. I created a cave and turned it into the ephemeral haunt of some vagabond-type. The subject is turned away from the viewer, sitting cross-legged and meditating. I chose a cooler color palette to engender a sense of stillness and Zen. I didn’t start with a preliminary sketch; I began my process by carving shapes out of one another to create enough depth for my subject.
